Rocca Della Macie, Vernaiolo Chianti 2002

This is our first blog entry, we wish to share with anyone who is curious or wants to know about our opinions about different wines. For us, it gives us an opportunity to keep track of what we drink, take notes and record our preferences.  This is the first bottle that we drank 2 days ago and this is what we thought:

  • It was very fruity
  • It wasn't as robust as a traditional Chianti, however I suspect that this has to do with the age of the wine.
  • It wasn't as dry as what I would have expected from a Chianti
  • It was an easy to drink wine on a weeknight, comparable to a Beaujolais.
This wine was 9 years old and was stored in proper conditions, however, Chianti's ideal shelf life is approximately 5-6 years maximum.  This may explain why this bottle differed significantly in taste.  We found it to be quite light and lacking in what would normally be expected in a Chianti.

Rating: 3/5 Grapes
